Apostrophe ( ' ) dalam penulisan kalimat bahasa Inggris biasanya digunakan dengan kata benda yang bertujuan sebagai penunjuk milik. Kita dapat menunjukkan bahwa seseorang memiliki sesuatu dengan menambahkan apostrophe ( ' ) dengan diikuti "s" pada kata benda tersebut. Adapun pola-polanya, sebagai berikut:
- 's for a singular possessive noun ( Ira's bag is very beautiful).
- 's with places ( The city's population are growing faster).
- 's with more than one noun ( Ira and John's mobile phone is same).
- 's with time words ( Today's meeting will be attended by Mr. Smith).
- 's for a plural possessive noun ( The people's motorcycles are black and red).
