Question tag is a word or expression that is used by person to give a statement and ask another person who is spoken to agree or disagree with his/her opinion.
Types of Question Tags
1. POSITIVE statement. question tag NEGATIVE.
S + Aux./ to be + Verb, Aux./ to be + Verb + NOT + Pronoun.
EXAMPLES:
- His aunt is a nurse, isn't she?
- Mr. Ali was sick yesterday, wasn't he?
- They always get up early, don't they?
- She visited my sister yesterday, didn't she?
- He can swim very fast, can't he?
- The chair has been painted, hasn't it?
- She have to come there now, don't she?
2. NEGATIVE statement. question tag POSITIVE.
S + Aux./ to be + Verb + NOT, Aux./ to be + Verb + Pronoun.
EXAMPLES:
- Mr. Ali was not sick yesterday, was he?
- They always do not get up early, do they?
- She did not visit my sister yesterday, did she?
- He cannot swim very fast, can he?
- The chair has not been painted, has it?
Nb:
- Open the door please, will you?
- Let's go for walk, shall we?
- Everything is okay, isn't it?
- Everybody studied hard, didn't they?
- A few students were there last Sunday, weren't they?
- A little money was left in the stolen wallet, wasn't it?
- They never go out on Sunday, do they?
#"never,seldom,rarely,barely, scarcely, hardly"(question tag POSITIVE)
"I am, aren't I"
"NOT on NEGATIVE TAG always in CONTRACTION: aren't I, won't they, don't you,etc.
